Hygiene

Hygiene appointments, alongside your regular dental check ups, will help prevent gum disease and dental decay. We carry out a professional clean, removing any plaque and tartar from your teeth and protecting your teeth and gums from bacteria.

Why are hygiene appointments important?

Your oral health is dependent on your gums. If left untreated, gum disease can cause the gums to recede and can even lead to eventual tooth loss. Keeping your gums as healthy as possible will help your overall health too, as gum disease has links to conditions including diabetes and heart disease.

What happens during a hygiene appointment?

We will initially ask you a few questions about your overall health, medical and dental history, so we can tailor the appointment to you. We’ll also ask if you have any concerns.

The main part of the hygiene appointment involves a scale and polish. This is a thorough clean, which removes stubborn tartar and plaque from all the areas hard to reach with your toothbrush at home. We then professionally polish your teeth, leaving them feeling smoother, cleaner and brighter.

We will also provide some advice on how to properly care for your teeth and gums at home, including showing you the best way to brush and floss.
